FAQ
Where does MovePlan operate?
MovePlan has offices across the UK, Ireland, the United States, Hong Kong, Singapore and Sydney. We have also undertaken relocations across mainland Europe, the Middle East, India and South America.
When is the best time to consider move management?
The sooner the better. On some large assignments we have been appointed up to eighteen months in advance. Equally, we have worked miracles and moved some companies with only two weeks' notice!
Why choose MovePlan over anyone else offering move management?
MovePlan enjoys a number of unique advantages over the competition. First, Move Management is our core business. It means that you will be looked after by people whose whole focus and training is managing relocations effectively. Second, MovePlan's track record and experience is unparalleled. We have been in business since 1986 and have a client list second to none. Third, our approach is holistic, which means that we can offer advice at a strategic level and manage the practical issues. We also appreciate and plan for the human aspects of a move as well as the physical. Fourth, we are totally independent. As we are not tied to a removals contractor or project management company, clients can be confident that we shall always offer objective advice and secure best value.
When should I consider move management?
In our experience, clients employ us when they are too busy running their own business and cannot afford any downtime; when they have never (or not recently) undertaken a move of such scope or scale; when they need to prepare a risk assessment and contingency plans; when their staff are already too stretched or lack the relevant experience to handle a major relocation; and when they want to avoid management time being employed in undertaking a move rather than capitalising on the opportunities it offers.
Do I need a specialist removal contractor for my IT?
Generally no. However, there is no doubt that relocation of IT needs special attention as it is central to virtually every office move. Consequently, all our staff are very experienced in this respect. It is standard practice for IT to be a core element of the overall relocation plan, so ensuring IT is effectively co-ordinated with all other aspects of the move.
How do I make the most of my relocation?
Relocation offers all kinds of opportunities for companies to improve the way they work, from optimising their use of space to improving the way individuals do things and communicate with one another.
By handing the detail of the move over to specialists, you ensure that senior management is free to concentrate on the essential strategic, operational and cultural issues surrounding the relocation.
Why can't my In-House Team handle the relocation?
In well-managed and efficient companies, the in-house resource is geared to an average number of internal moves. The time, resource and expertise required to deliver a major relocation is substantially greater. It is unreasonable to expect a team that is already working at or near capacity to continue delivering internal moves as well as planning and delivering a major project.
What is the financial justification for move management?
There are two major financial justifications for Move Management. The first is eliminating downtime. If your own staff plan and manage the relocation, they will not be fully available to the business and consequently profits are likely to suffer.
The second is avoiding pitfalls. Most companies do not relocate frequently, so they are rarely familiar with many of the pitfalls that can occur; a poorly managed move can be highly disruptive and extremely expensive. By comparison, the investment in Move Management is a relatively small cost.
How does MovePlan's offer differ from that of a removals company?
Removal contractors focus on the physical transfer of assets from one location to another. MovePlan focuses on the needs of the organisation, the staff and the physical transfer of the assets to ensure that the business continues to operate profitably throughout the relocation.
Our remit includes issues such as detailed planning, internal communication, IT, rationalising filing and ensuring you receive best value from the removals contractor best suited to the particular requirements of your business.
